Perhaps, in your wildest dreams, you've contemplated rainbow hair. Odds are, you've shied away from it, fearing chemical damage, costly salon appointments, and an awkward growing-out process. (Not to mention, you know, what people at work might say.)
Going for bright color can be scary — we get it. That's why we were so struck by the hair at Maxime Simoens' spring 2015 show during Fashion Week. Laurent Philippon, the lead stylist at the show, used makeup pigments to paint the roots of the models' strands, creating a raver-girl effect. To us, it seems like the easiest way to try out the pastel trend without fully committing.
That's why we recruited celebrity hair guru Peter Butler to show us exactly how it's done. He grabbed one of our staffers and piled on tons of MAC Pigment, layering with hairspray, and setting with a dryer. The result: a peekaboo-purple shade that was a little bit '90s and a whole lotta cool. Watch the video to learn how to do it yourself.
